Hi, rob from philippinevoyager here! I found your blog through your comment in Julius' article. I'm a software programmer like yourself, also doing web stuff, with a target of becoming a freelancer in the Philippines when I'm back there for good.

Office Space is my favorite movie because it's so realistic. Lately I've been very stressed out too, almost to the point where I feel that I've just had it, parang sobra na talaga. I was wondering why work stress is so much more unhealthful in the US rather than the Philippines, and after months of thinking, I finally got a theory as to why -

While software development work is stressful in both the Philippines and US, the difference is that in the Philippines, there are many more de-stressors. In the office environment itself, there are many ways to relieve stress, the lighter side of life is a part of the work environment. In the US, there are lots of stressors, but hardly any de-stressors, both in and out of work, people are too serious, and no one has time for leisure activities as they are all exhausted.

I'll be posting new articles related to Philippines Work once I get there next month! -rob
