Metro Manila Taxi guide

January 17th, 2009 · 3 Comments

We are quite fortunate to live in central location in Metro Manila. We have public transportation within reach which includes MRT, tricycle, jeep, buses and taxi. We find the cost of taking taxi not so bad considering all the convenience it gives. Driving our own private vehicle does not seem like a practical option now since we are still not yet comfortable and knowledgeable of the traffic situation here. Besides, it may also be less costly compared to buying a car and considering the cost of fuel it is still not so bad if we are just going to places like Makati, Ortigas Center or even Manila or Quezon City. It saves a lot of time also compared to taking buses or MRT. Only thing not good is that maybe 1 in 5 taxi drivers are prone to complaints or demands for extra fees or some have taxis in really poor condition or worse they don’t drive safely or do not know how to get to your destination. Sometimes, it is also hard to get a taxi especially during busy times like Friday or Saturday afternoons or next to the malls. There are also some places that are not being frequented by taxis. For this, having a phone number of taxi company would be very helpful.

Here’s a couple of call-in taxi phone numbers in Metro Manila:
Dollar : 921-2383 (They charge 50 pesos extra)
RNE : 330-1654

We have only tried Dollar and we were satisfied with the experience. The driver was on time and the driver treated us professionally. We will use them again this week to go to my Mom’s early flight.

Interesting blog. It would also be interesting to know how you feel now a few months after posting this. I also shared my thoughts on my blog on this topic as well as some tips. Appreciate it if you also let me know what you think. Cheers

Beware of certain drivers from this taxi company called 24/7 Taxi. One of their taxi drivers refused to bring me to my destination which was only 15 minutes away from where I boarded. He gave the excuse that it’s coding for him on a Tuesday when his number plate ends in 5. Then he gave another excuse. When I wrote down the info on his taxi, he got mad and tried to pick a fist fight with me in public. They do have horrible drivers.

hi TD! here’s my comment after one year. Last May 2009 we purchased a private vehicle. I guess you are right — our views have changed regarding the reliability of taxis. It can really be a pain to get one during busy hours, and especially from Makati no one wants to take me. They only take passengers with Makati destination. We were fortunate to have been referred a reliable driver who is a relative of a good friend so that made the decision easier! We’re so glad we bought our own car!
