Hi Mixxy,

I got my tickets and off to the Phils.this July, with 3 kids ages 8,9 & 14 and a Milanese DOCG!!This initails are very important to italian wines assurance of origin and quality.

He is on his way of being "trasplanted" in the Philippines at the age of 56.

I called his attention to read this article of your's regarding brigging your partner into the Philippines.

Here is what he says:

1.Language:when I met my wife I studied Tagalog just to impress her but I found out later on that she was from Mindanao. So I HAVE and MUST move to the Philippines to impress her more and study Visayan instead!

My wife studied for 6 months in an Italian school and was still "baloktot" with her Italian.
But later on she mastered her Italian while going to flea markets and start barganing with the price!
I think I will learn quick with Visayan but will never ever have great deal in the market!!!

2.Career or business prospects:I am moving out here in Milan because I am just tired of working!! I told my wife if we are moving into the Philippines I refuse to work!I want to have "hilot" every week, sleep, rest whenever I want.I want to be a simple man,I want to stay under the coco tree and simply be mindless with everything.I dont want to be woke-up the beeb of the alarm clock but the cock-a-doddle of a rooster. The first thing I must look for early in the morning is my "che-ne-las" not the daily news paper!

His Family:My relatives can visit me anytime they want, important is that they must leave immidiately after 10 days. This is ofcourse to safeguard undesirebale intension of moving beside my house on the beach!!!!

Living Arrangements:#1 wines are abundant in supermarkets in Mindanao. But a cold SM is simply the answer to hot weather!

#2 its only kare-kare that I cannot take since I am allergic to peanuts.I prefer adobong pusit than adobong baboy!

#3tropical fruits are abundant and they are healty too.
last but not the least not to mention the daily catch I get...

Health:What's with a 56 year old man moving to the Philippines? I am rejuvenated with the balot vendor outside my house he is already my "suki".
If it's really your time to say bye then off you go....you know what I mean!

Prepare for Culture Shock:When I met my wife way back 1990.I asked her on the plane where she came from and she told me:from the P.I. and I replied pipi island! That was my first taste of culture shock.I dint even know which part of Asia is the Philippines.Later I have to study the Philippine history & its culture but it was not enought to understand the lifestyle and the do's and dont's of the Philippine culture.
An adviced for future "partners"like me take advantage ofthe "precana" its the pre marraige seminar.I could just remember way back an Australian priest who was conducting the seminar told me:Marco remember this, if you marry a filippina you marry the whole family!
Thanks to all my pinoy relativs, that I learned to love the whole Philippines,I love to go to divisoria's,tyange, and fish market.I love to be with simple filipinos.

The quality of life in the Philippines is not measured with a health insurance neither a good wine on the table but....the Philippines has much to offer that is why we are carzy to move back to the Philippines!!

Ok that's for me I need to go and packed some boxes, back to my wife now.

Ok Mixxy have to go now.

hi! i just stumbled upon your blog... it's a very interesting you are doing.

i'm on my way out myself, but i have no long term plans, and i might still come home to the philippines in the long run. but i must agree with ruth - life is bliss in pinas but only if you have the means to pay for it.

maybe some day, i will be able to have enough to come back home.

if we could, we would be living in the philippines right this minute. culture shock, language barriers, family issues --- well, i had to deal with those when i relocated to be with him; i don't see any reason why he wouldn't be able to cope if it was the other way around.

the only real barrier is landing gainful employment which would afford us to "buy" safety, health, education for our kids, and lifestyle. setting up a business is a big risk if you've never done it before. there are just some people who aren't cut out for self employment.

haaay, life is a bliss in pinas... but only if you have the means to pay for it. :(

Hi mixxy,

I'm just having my lunch break from my tree trimming (spring break job before I can get fined by the city) but I can't resist leaving a comment.

My husband is so stressed out he is willing to leave her sickly mom behind -- she's staying with the daughter -- and exactly one of the reasons I'm hesitant to move there without enough funds. Even if the apts would generate income, just for the plane tickets alone it's no match to the $$$$$ we would need.

Sometimes he even considers finding a job at the university. I don't think so...the only way is to have your own business. I'd rather tutor from our house in Fairview [still maybe just enough for Philippine lifestyle], and in the long run everything will even out: no stress having a boss, no need for gas and driver [he thinks he can drive in Manila], and I can have a long list.

That's why I'm just waiting for the chips to fall wherever they may--I'm so torn between going back to the Philippines and staying here for another for years until he at least can get early retirement package. But, it's like eternity to him! [sighhhh]
